Grid Ref: NZ482371 Crimdon Overview:
General Description
Sandy grass dunes for launching give access north onto vertical cliffs with a steep earth slope above them. The normal run is up to Double Decker Cave (`The Point'), which can be a challenge to get round (only when the tide is OUT !) which gives access to the run of cliffs to Blackhall, Hordon and Seaham. (If the wind is off to the east Horden, Easington or Seaham are better places to fly.)
Access Notes
Drive south through Blackhall towards Hartlepool. Turn left at Crimdon Dene (Caravan Park) and follow the road (watch out for speed bumps) to the car park. (Note at the time of writing (2004) major renovation work was in progress in this area but whilst car parking will change, there will always be plenty at this popular beach)
Safety
Toplanding HG's - Approach from the south and not to high ! stay well back (be careful of the dene over the back)
If flying alone leave no equipment unattended.
Certain sections of the cliff top can rotor, dependant on wind direction and speed.
Avoid landing in the sea.
If flying past Double Decker Cave (`The Point') and over `The Fingers' to Dead Man's Steps make sure you have enough height as there is never any bottom landing option.
