Yeavering Bell Overview:

      General Description
A big hill with a steep grass and rock covered face which makes for an excellent site, works best in a n.n.easterly wind. Great potential for O&R ridge runs, it is possible to fly onto Newton Tors to the southwest and Akeld Hill to the east. Alternatively head XC over the back, best flight xc so far is to Morpeth !
      Access Notes
Heading north on the A697, at Akeld turn take the B6351 towards Kirk Newton. After 1 mile aprox watch out for a right bend in the road at which point turn left onto a small track and park on the left as near to the road as possible. Walk passed a small row of cottages on your right, through the gate and turn left (another gate) then up the hill. It is possible to bottom land in the pastures at the foot of the hill so long as they don't contain crops, please check before you fly.

Bottom landing is across the main road straight out in front of the hill (HG)
Do not land in the fields during lambing if lambs are in the fields.
      Safety
The `Bell' is used by sailplanes and tug pilots * keep your distance & a good 'LOOK OUT' they approach very fast !

Take care with increased wind speed at height.

Toplanding - don't approach to high in case of being blown over the back !

Bottom landing - excellent

Beware of strong sea breezes pushing in up the deep valleys in the summer time !
