Grid Ref: NU087158 Titlington Pike Overview:
General Description
A small hill with a flat moorland top with heather & grass, it has a steep face/bowl with a few large boulders and is covered with trees at its southern end. Works best in a w.s.westerly wind, can also take a southerly & a n.westerly ! Although it has a turbulent reputation it can also produce some good conditions. XC's to the coast have been achieved from here many times.
Access Notes
Take the A697 north; approximately 8 miles past Longframlington take the right turn to Eglingham by a bungalow and down a steep hill. Climb up under an old railway bridge and on to a T junction. Turn right and down the hill, drive for approx ¼ mile looking out for a gate on the left near the foot of the hill (chained gate) park on the verge. 4x4's with HG's can drop your gear off then drive back down and park on the verge.
Safety
There is often strong compression at the front of the face.
Beware of rocks hidden in the long bracken !
This site is turbulent in strong winds or if the wind is off to the south (tree line 'ROTOR')
Keep away from the mobile phone mast.
*HANGGLIDER PILOTS* leave with enough height to make the bottom landing field [right side of the hill] & well back and its a long glide into rising ground. *If you are going to overshoot there is a small rising plateau near the foot of the hill.
